Can you advertise too much?

i recently met a client who said that it "was nice to meet an escort who wasn't plastered over every escort site known to man" - rather a sweeping statement and his words not mine.

Got me thinking. Can an escort advertise too much? Does this give the impression that the escort is desperate for work and by placing adverts on every site / publication that the escort sees numerous clients and operates at the bottom end of the market?

The client obviously knew his way around the whole escort scene and obviously used lots of escort sites.

I have changed my advertising recently, the clients comments didn't influence my decision, and now only advertise on one on line site and one publication. Whilst this has reduced the number of new clients that I see, it has of course, reduced my out goings and hence increased my profits. It has also increased the number of regular clients that I see.

I avoid any online sites that favour London / Manchester based escorts - I dont live / work in those areas so its a waste of time / money / effort for me. So online I only use Gaydar. It tends to attract the clients to my profile that will travel / live in my area. I know that you either hate it or love it - well maybe tolerate it - but Gaydar serves me well and provides me with a stream of regular high paying clients. I dont suffer the Gaydar fools gladly and can usually weed them out early in the messages / conversations.

The only publication that I use it my local area "FreeAd" publication. This provides a steady stream of clients that dont require too much and, although I charge a lower price, it does provide a steady income. i only use this publication at the beginning of the month, at the end of the month money seems tight for the type of clients that it attracts. I also dont advertise during school or public holidays - the clients are all at home looking after the kids!!

I just find that targeting my advertising seems to work for me. I should say that by not advertising on numerous sites I dont consider myself better or more exclusive than any other escort.

I sometimes wonder about some of the sites I'm on where it's free to post, but bring in no business (escortvision, gaybooty, boys2rent). I know common sense says that even if you get just one client (who could become a regular), then it's worth having the profile, but sometimes it feels a bit messy, like a bit of trimming and tidying would be good for the mind.

I do wonder about him as well tho, if he's maybe suffering from 'escort fatigue'. Maybe it's like when you have a non-commercial, recreational profile on something like Gaydar or Gayromeo and there's a weary familiarity with the same faces that pop up each time you check 'Guys Online In Your Area'.

You probably bestow too much intelligence upon your potential customers.

I'll advertise wherever is effective for the initial investment and in a way that draws in and eases the most common doubts of my ideal type of customer. And not to appeal to the wrong type of person.

Someone who is trolling around, looking at every directory and magazine before making a firm decision isn't likely to be your ideal, repeating customer.

Rob was quite right in saying that "there's a weary familiarity with the same faces that pop up each time" - although he was refering to a non commercial profile - it can be applied to escort advertising.

I suppose the art of advertising and self promotion is to keep it fresh. I know that I scan profiles / advertising etc. and think "seen it" and move on, so I'm sure that potential clients do the same thing.

While maybe not my ideal, he has become a repeating, customer.

According to his business card he is a director of a London based advertising / marketing agency so, while I dont think that he's making a pitch for my £150 / month advertising budget, I credit him with a bit of intelligence in advertising matters.

He used the word "jaded" when refering to escorts who plaster the same advert / pictures across numerous advertising outlets. He could, of course use the word "jaded" to describe himself as a client who looks at all the adverts.

I admit to having "jaded" days when escorting. A long night, an early morning, clients winding me up and sometimes not performing at my best, so I'm as guilty as any of the "jaded" escorts that he refers to

Very interesting points raised and quite thought provoking.

Should be flattered that I have had 'your quite famous' & 'have seen your ads all over the internet'

Recently I have been spending much time seeking out places to profile - previously I had not been very disciplined and had not kept tabs on where I was advertising - so rarely updated anything - now I keep a list.

My only advice would be if you are going for max try not to have same pics on every profile - and don't leave them two years before you update!

I also need to get into discipline of doing stats for how many booking I get a year from what sites etc - that is not always easy when the client responds with 'I can't remember where I found your profile but it was on the internet.

Am considering putting on all my profiles now 'PLEASE TELL NAME OF WEBSITE WHERE YOU SEE MY AD' - some advertisers do that.

GT has not been the honeypot I was expecting - if I don't get any bookings from my Christmas ad then I won't bother again - or maybe just once or twice a year.

for full list that I have been updating: ( first post )
