Only just discovered this site - www.gpscort.com - a play on GPS and escort.

I believe it's also an app (tho I don't have a smart phone myself, so not sure)

There's a few familiar faces on there, but I was wondering if anyone had chosen to advertise on there (and if so, is it any good?) or if the site is lifting escort details from other sites and creating profiles from that?

(I searched on here for other posts about the site, searched under GPScort GPS GP$cort but couldn't find anything. Apologies if it's already in another thread.)

As James said being blighted with sms messages about a service similar to grindr. at the time I looked didn't look like anything special or new so choose to ignore it.

Its the same faces as on every other site I advertise as well as that I don't believe it will generate good traffic or leads

What I find amusing is that it takes about 3 clicks to even see an Escort, and manually entering a location doesn't work - you have to share your location with the site via Location Aware Browsing.

It's just a GPS template site that has been fiddled, and they already have ads in the national press.

They seem to have gotten a little greedy at GPScort.

A couple of months ago I received this message from support basically saying
my profile would be invisible unless I "upgraded"!

Thought it was rather cheeky considering I hardly use it, had 1 clients who was genuine, and that's it.

So I got on my high horse.... and gave them a piece of my mind!

Hi there guys,

I have to admit, I'm rather surprised to receive an email from GPScort  telling me I should "upgrade" - since I've only had 1 genuine client book my services via your site since I signed up in May 2014.

As someone who has been in this game for over ten years I think you should know my one client from your site is one more than the other escorts I speak to on a regular basis.

What makes you think your site is worth us escorts handing over (what is a part of our income..) a subscription fee just to keep our profiles "visible", until we are sure it's worth it? Also odd to be told I have reached my "communication limit" as I've only had two emails and no private messages at all in the last month - let alone the last 6 months via your website.

When I signed up to your site (after seeing a full-page advert in QX Magazine/Boyz) I was under the impression GPScort was a *free service* - considering the reputation it has for being rather useles for drumming up business in the escort community, I am curious as to why you have introduced this "paywall" - especially when you take into account GPScort is a relatively new site - and there are plenty of other well established effective subscription services already out there which provide a return. (ManchesterLads.com - for example).

It is clear GPScort's parent company has invested a considerable sum in order to create the site, so I hope you find my feedback constructive and it benefits the entire gay escort community.

Best Wishes,

Boyd Boss

I never received a reply, but oddly about 3 weeks later I got another email, subject line "Profile Visible Again!"

When I came across GPScort, I liked the concept - simply put a Grindr for escorts.
I created a profile and gave it a go but I quickly became frustrated and it felt it wouldn't go anywhere from the start.

They've just grabbed some (probably freely available) code and a clever tagline and made a web app just to levy a fee on escorts.

Never even had a single enquiry off there, and the legitimacy of the GPS results seemed very questionable.

Meh.

Shame though, as the concept is great. Escorting listings online still work off a really old fashioned model. It's about time someone brought it up to the 21st century.  Even clunky old Squirt managed to just about launch a GPS based mobile version.

If Sleepyboys (for example) did it, it'd be huge based on the size of their database alone. But I won't get my hopes up there. The sheer volume of typos on their site doesn't exactly bode well for them suddenly become technological innovators.

Jock2go does have a GPS listing to show escorts based on proximity. But the site itself works very much like any other escort directory and just doesn't seem to have much of a profile. I have had a couple of enquiries at least, so I'll leave it going for now. But still... Sleepyboy need to invest in a GPS mobile site asap!

I personally think the value of GPS as a technology although welcome, is of limited use to escort directories.

1. Not everyone is able to or comfortable with sharing their distance/location, clients as well as escorts. Some sites try to force the option on users, which is annoying.

2. Exact proximity is of varying importance - from very desirable to unimportant, depending on ability/willingness of either client or escort to travel.  Handy in a place like London I guess, especially for visitors.

Sleepyboy appear to be improving their platform of late to be fair on them. Even as one of the biggest, most successful male escort sites they are not immune to being outdone, due to not-keeping-up with the trends and advancements of their competitors. They also have the volume of advertisers  and visitors to make GPS a useful tool on their site, particularly in London - something GPScort never had. They have a postcode search, although not as accurate - with a few lines of extra code could have GPS/Location Sharing added. I suspect they'll introduce GPS features in the near future.

Rent.men has GPS enabled, but it's another site that seems to generate very little business, despite it's prices, size and presence. I'll reserve my comments on them for another thread here.

Jock2Go never heard of it until now, had a look - seems worth a go, promising but again can't see how GPS is of much use there until they get busier, but at least they're ready. Actual profile pages aren't very interesting looking, a little bland and has a very automated/nobody home feel about it, something Sleepyboy has to their credit. Their pricing is VERY reasonable (not to mention a free package).

Rent.men is around a factor of 10 larger than Sleepyboy.com, and as popular in the UK, via its large number of advertisers in London.

Jock2Go is an anti-competitive initiative by Rent.men, as is Rentmasseur.com - which is not a proper massage directory.

Rent.men has an app, but for it to work - you must keep logging in. It would only work by automatically determining the advertiser's location, but even then...

GPS is not popular, because it is anti-quality. Reducing the primary criteria for visibility to geographical co-ordinates, downplays other factors and moves the emphasis towards the kind of cheap and immediate hookup initiated by a dating app. In urban centers, no advertiser wants to be seen outside of his base - which is where most advertisers wish to be visible, all of the time. At a certain size, and level of competition, GPS becomes useful to escorts - but even the female escort industry is not there. Although "officially" banned, we are now visible on GPS dating apps, and allowed to re-create adverts just like any user. So we are there, because of the numbers, and despite the GPS function.
