Long vs short profiles for advertising

Hi guys,

I've recently rewritten my profile completely in all my adverts because i got fed up of answering the same questions over and over in PM's, plus I got some decent pics taken to go with it. Before it was very short, only a few sentences really and didn't include a huge amount of info about me. Now it is about 2.5k characters but it includes everything about what I will/won't do, as well as a short paragraph about what sort of guy I am.

Since doing this earlier in the week my responses have dropped massively, to the point where I've not got a single booking so far for the weekend. Though to be fair i have attracted a better type of client for the few i have had this week.

I quite like the new profile as everything is there that a punter needs to know, but maybe people are being put off by all the info? I'm torn between whether to scrap it and go back to the dead simple profile or keep it and hope it things pick up again....

If anyone could take a look at it and give me a few pointers I'd appreciate it hugely. Ive never been able to get the advertising side of things right in the 2 years I've been doing this.

I'd stick to simple, sweet and short, most clients can't or don't bother to read most of the profile anyway. Decent photos are a must - a picture is worth a thousand words.

 

As for answering the same questions over and over again - afraid its an occupational hazard!!

A Marketing Director of a national company who I'm good friends with read over my Gaydar profile a few years ago, and was like "Too much text! Nobody wants to read all that."

 

I think he has a point, but I also take your points Lee. 

 

Now, across all platforms, and on my website, I have created subsections. A short intro with basic info which gives a rough synopsis, then more details for anyone who is interested enough. 

 

I think my website has about 400 words on the home page, split into sections, so it's not so difficult for the eye to take in, probably about the same as your 2.5k characters. 

 

I agree with Lee, that I was fed up long ago spending all my time writing out answers for people. 

 

Most of the the time, I now say, "as I explain on my profile...", or "There is lots of information about what I offer on my website. Have a read through and let me know if anything isn't clear or if you have any specific questions" etc.

A big block of text is fine so long as you know very few clients will read any of it. For those who do read it you're saving yourself some of the repitition of explaining it each time and you can also direct clients to read it (" all details, rates, pics etc are here- link")  if they seem too interested in chatting and unlikely to actually book an appointment ie just using your answers to their questions as wank material.

Just make sure there's a title or some kind of bold text at the top with the key points eg you're a male escort who sees men in x location and your contact number. If it's your website or anywhere with more than one page, make sure these key points are repeated on every page at the top, in bold. I see plenty of escort sites that look like the escort has spent thousands on photoshoots and web design but then made it difficult to find, or ommited completely, where they are, what they do and how to contact them.

I think that your crediting clients with too much intelligence - most just see a picture and think "I want that one"!!

 

Recently the majority of my clients seem to have problems following basic instructions / directions - let alone navigating around a website!!

I completely agree with Oz's sentiments and find that it's worth answering all the common questions within my profile text but I still expect to explain it again to those who ask. I also think it's important to get some personality across in the ad, as some clients are looking for more than just sex and are trying to work out whether or not they might get along with you.

Many people (myself included) speed read online, catching the info that looks important rather than reading every word. This is then compounded by men feeling horny, and possibly working their way through a list of escorts trying to find one who suits and is available.

Sometimes clients want to confirm the information advertised is correct too, having been burnt in the past by escorts who promise things in their profile text that they do not provide in person. I once had a client complain about an escort he booked who stated on his profile "I give 110% to please you in any and every way. I love it all, am completely versatile and my goal is to satisfy your every need." - when met, the escort said that he didn't perform oral sex. You can imagine the client's disappointment.

It's easy to get jaded but not all people querying your information are bad readers. They're just horny, busy humans like the rest of us.

Where else do you advertise? I've been on gayswap since the beginning and I don't think I've ever had one single genuine client from there. Be prepared to spend a lot on advertising if you want to be busy. I spend about £500 per rmonth to get 1-2 clients per day. You only list outcall rates. If that means you don't have an incall location, it will get you a lot more jobs if you find somewhere. Preferably somewhere clean and private in a central location. Even if it's an hourly rental. I rent mine out to people per hour in London. Nice tats. Maybe display some more body shots from different angles showing all the tats. Unique points like your tattoos that make you stand out from the crowds of other guys advertising are what you want to focus on as your selling points. If you google photoshoot voucher and your area, you can find cheap shoots on groupon, wahanda etc. And if the deal doesn't include retouching, you can get it done on fiverr for US$5 per pic. I advertise on gayswap, adultwork, backpage, haloboys, ukadultzone, planetromeo and craigslist when I can be bothered to sift through the timewasters. Just got on gaydar tonight too. Been meaning to get on manchesterlads but I'm skint at the mo, but I will be sorting out an ad on there next week hopefully.

Yeah i only do outcalls at the moment as I live with my girlfriend and have a flatmate too. I've just started looking out for somewhere to rent locally although there doesn't seem to be much here.

Good call on the tat shots, I'll get some new pics taken tomorrow with the emphasis on tattoos, ive got a fantastic piece on my ribs that cost a fortune so I don't know why i havent got shots of it included already lol. I'll have a look at the photoshoot vouchers, thanks for the tip.

Honestly Lee, you need to invest in some decent photographs. They make all the difference in attracting customers. Think of advertising like eBay - you wouldn't buy something on there if the pictures were crap and you couldn't clearly see what you were buying. It's the same with selling anything else online, including yourself.

Get your girlfriend to take some pics, in good lighting with a reasonably plain background. Failing that, see someone like Bengie in Chester, who's a nice retired guy who will do you a photoset for free.
